Building of the Trans-Siberian Railway (1891–92)
On the Russian Revolution map as “The Trans-Siberian begins”
1891–92 — Nicholas, the heir, lays the first stone of the Trans-Siberian at Vladivostok on 19/31 May 1891. Work begins from west to east at Chelyabinsk in July 1892. The line will join Siberia and the Pacific to the empire's European core with more than 7,000 km of track, paid for by a treasury borrowing heavily abroad.
