Capture of Tashkent (1865)
On the Russian Revolution map as “Tashkent stormed”
Jun 1865 — General Chernyaev takes a small force against Tashkent, the largest city in Central Asia, and storms it. St Petersburg later describes the attack as his unauthorized initiative, although the War Ministry had wanted the city since the late 1850s. Tashkent becomes the capital of Russian Turkestan. Samarkand falls in 1868, Khiva in 1873 and Kokand in 1876.
