Choeung Ek (1975–79)

1975–79 — Prisoners from the Tuol Sleng (S-21) interrogation center in Phnom Penh are taken to Choeung Ek, a former orchard south of the city, to be killed and buried. A memorial stupa now holds thousands of skulls. Under Democratic Kampuchea, an estimated 1.5 to 2.2 million people die from execution, starvation and disease. Remember them.
