Stalin’s Soviet Union · TURNING POINT ·
Trotsky’s exile to Alma-Ata (1928)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “Trotsky’s exile”
17 Jan 1928 — OGPU agents carried Leon Trotsky, the founder of the Red Army, onto a train and sent him to Alma-Ata, more than 3,000 km from Moscow. Distance did not silence him: from Kazakhstan he continued to write to his supporters. The regime eventually decided that even this exile was too close.
