Stalin’s Soviet Union · TURNING POINT ·
Georgian affair (1922–23)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “The Georgian Affair”
1922–1923 — Georgia’s Bolsheviks resisted being drawn into a Transcaucasian federation, but Stalin and Ordzhonikidze forced them in. Ordzhonikidze struck one of the Georgian Bolsheviks during the dispute. The dying Lenin saw Great-Russian chauvinism at work in the episode, and the quarrel led him to demand Stalin’s removal as General Secretary.
