Levashovo Memorial Cemetery (1937–54)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “Levashovo”
1937–1954 — North of Leningrad, the NKVD buried people shot in the city’s prisons in a fenced wasteland. Tens of thousands were buried there, most of them in 1937–38. The site became a memorial cemetery in 1989; families have hung photographs of the dead on its pine trees.
