Kolyma Gulag camps (1932–53)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “Kolyma”
1932–1953 — Dalstroi, the NKVD trust that ruled the Kolyma region, brought prisoners through the port of Magadan to mine gold in permafrost. The writer Varlam Shalamov survived years there and described the experience. In 1953 Dalstroi lost its camps, and its territory became a normal province.
