Siege of Zhongdu (1215)

On the Mongol Empire map as “Fall of Zhongdu”

May 1215 — Starvation brings down the Jin capital, Zhongdu, beneath modern Beijing. A Khwarazmian envoy describes the ground as greasy with human fat. The fall also brings captured Khitan and Chinese clerks and engineers into the khan’s service. Among the conquered are people who can help the Mongols take other walled cities.
