Great Famine in Sichuan (1959–61)
On the Mao’s China map as “Sichuan”
1959–61 — Sichuan’s people starved while, under Li Jingquan, the province shipped more grain to other provinces and for export than any other. Its official death rate reached 54 per thousand in 1960. As the most populous province, it lost more people than any other: estimates range from about 7 to 9 million.
