Great Famine in Anhui (1959–61)
On the Mao’s China map as “Anhui”
1959–61 — Anhui, under Zeng Xisheng, recorded the highest official death rate of any province. In 1960 the rate was 68.6 per thousand, more than six times the national rate before the Leap. Counties such as Fengyang, Wuwei and Feidong lost a large share of their people. This marker stands for the province’s dead.
