White Buses (1945)

On the Refugee crises map as “The White Buses reach Malmö”

Mar–May 1945 — Buses of the Swedish Red Cross, organized by Count Folke Bernadotte, carry about 15,000 concentration-camp prisoners to Sweden. Scandinavians come first, followed by women from Ravensbrück; ships bring thousands more survivors that summer. Neutral Sweden became one of the first places in Europe to offer them asylum.
