German surrender at Karlshorst (1945)

On the Refugee crises map as “The surrender at Karlshorst”

8 May 1945 — In a requisitioned officers’ mess at Berlin-Karlshorst, German commanders sign the unconditional surrender. Millions of foreigners who had been forced workers or prisoners in the Reich were now free, but still far from home. Allied authorities had to count, feed and shelter these displaced persons and decide where they could go.
