Volga famine (1921–22)
On the Russian Revolution map as “The Volga famine”
1921–22 — Drought, requisition and ruin bring famine to the Volga region; perhaps five million people die. Food supplied by the American Relief Administration keeps millions alive. The regime accepts the rescue, though it is uncomfortable for the authorities, and later hides it. The marker serves as both memorial and moral ledger.
