Kronstadt rebellion (1921)
On the Russian Revolution map as “Kronstadt”
Mar 1921 — The sailors of Kronstadt had been a source of pride to the revolution. Now they demand soviets without Bolshevik dictatorship. The Red Army crosses the ice to storm their island fortress, and survivors are shot or exiled. The memorial recalls a revolution turning on its own.
