Wuhan Incident (1967)
On the Mao’s China map as “The Wuhan Incident”
20 Jul 1967 — While Mao was secretly in Wuhan, soldiers and the mass organization “Million Heroes” seized two envoys from Beijing. The group had the backing of regional commander Chen Zaidao. Mao was flown out to Shanghai, and Chen was removed. The incident showed how close the movement had come to splitting the army.
