Jiabiangou labour camp (1957–61)
On the Mao’s China map as “Jiabiangou”
1957–61 — About 3,000 people labeled rightists in Gansu were sent to a labor farm on desert land near Jiuquan. Food ran out in 1960, and the prisoners ate seeds, leaves and bark. By the time the farm closed in 1961, about 2,000–2,500 had died; only some 500–600 survived. The writer Yang Xianhui and filmmaker Wang Bing recorded the survivors.
