Mao’s China · TURNING POINT ·
Chinese entry into the Korean War (1950)
On the Mao’s China map as “Crossing the Yalu”
19 Oct 1950 — At night, the first units of the Chinese People’s Volunteers cross the Yalu at Andong (Dandong), unseen by American reconnaissance. The name “volunteers” allows Beijing to fight the United States without declaring war. Over the next three years, close to three million Chinese serve in Korea.
