Mao’s China · TURNING POINT ·
Korean Armistice Agreement (1953)
On the Mao’s China map as “Panmunjom”
27 Jul 1953 — An armistice is signed after two years of talks. The chief obstacle had been whether prisoners could refuse to return home; about 14,000 Chinese prisoners chose Taiwan over repatriation. Beijing’s latest count puts China’s dead at about 198,000, while other estimates put the number as high as 400,000.
