Anglo-German naval arms race (1898–1912)
On the WWI map as “Tirpitz’s fleet”
1898–1912 — Admiral Tirpitz builds a battle fleet from the North Sea base at Wilhelmshaven. His aim is a fleet so dangerous that Britain would hesitate to fight it. The Navy Laws of 1898 and 1900 put its growth into law, and Britain correctly understands that the fleet is aimed at itself.
