Greek–Turkish population exchange (1923)

On the WWI map as “The population exchange”

1923 — A convention signed at Lausanne sends about 1.2 million Orthodox Christians of Turkey and 350,000–400,000 Muslims of Greece from their homelands. Most of the Christians have already become refugees since Smyrna burned in September 1922. The convention uses religion, rather than language, to decide who must leave.
