Berlin Airlift (1948–49)

On the Refugee crises map as “The Berlin airlift”

Jun 1948–May 1949 — The Soviet blockade cuts off West Berlin, but American and British aircraft keep the city supplied through Tempelhof and other airfields. The crisis hardens Germany’s division into two states in 1949. West Berlin remains a route out of the East until 1961, and millions later leave through it.
