Refugee Convention (1951)

On the Refugee crises map as “Geneva and the Refugee Convention”

28 Jul 1951 — A UN conference in Geneva adopts the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees. It defines refugee status and restricts return to threatened life or freedom on specified grounds, subject to exceptions. Geneva also hosts the UN refugee agency and, in 1979 and 1989, the two conferences that decided the fate of the Indochinese boat people.
