Palestinian refugees in Gaza (1948–50)

On the Refugee crises map as “Gaza and UNRWA”

1948–50 — About 200,000 Palestinians who fled or were driven from their homes during the 1948 war crowd into the Gaza Strip. They are among roughly 700,000 to 750,000 refugees in all. The UN creates UNRWA in December 1949; Article 1D of the 1951 Convention addresses people receiving protection or assistance from another UN agency, leaving them outside UNHCR’s mandate.
