Stalin’s Soviet Union · TURNING POINT ·
Gigant state farm (1928–30)
On the Stalin’s Soviet Union map as “The Gigant state farm”
1928–1930 — South of Rostov, on the Salsk steppe, the state founded a grain farm called “Gigant”. It was allotted some 240,000 hectares, an area the size of a small country, and used imported tractors. Gigant displayed what mechanized socialist farming might look like, though most collective farms would wait years for machines of their own.
