Siege of Vladimir (1238)
On the Mongol Empire map as “Vladimir”
Feb 1238 — The grand prince’s capital burns, with his family inside the cathedral. Weeks later his army is hunted down on the Sit River. In three months of snow, fourteen Rus towns fall. Batu turns south before reaching Novgorod; it is the spring thaw that stops him, not an army.
