Proclamation of the People’s Republic (1949)
On the Mao’s China map as “The People’s Republic”
1 Oct 1949 — Before a crowd put at 300,000, Mao proclaims the People’s Republic from the Gate of Heavenly Peace. The new flag depicts the political order he announces: four small stars, for the workers, peasants, petty bourgeoisie and national bourgeoisie of “New Democracy”, surround the large star of the Communist Party that leads them.
