Jun 1915-Sep 1917 — To reach Trieste, Italy attacks eleven times along the same 40-km limestone river valley. The attacks gain kilometers and cost some 300,000 Italian dead. Even in a war known for static fronts, the Isonzo stands out for how little the line moves.
