Deir ez-Zor and the Armenian genocide (1915–16)

On the WWI map as “Deir ez-Zor”

1915-16 — Deportation columns end their journey at Deir ez-Zor. The Ottoman government has driven Armenians from their Anatolian homes under cover of war; in camps in the Syrian desert, they are starved and massacred. Around a million to 1.5 million die. The word “genocide” was later coined with this crime in mind. Remember them.
