Wildflecken DP camp (1945–51)

On the Refugee crises map as “Wildflecken”

1945–51 — A former Wehrmacht training ground in the Rhön hills becomes the largest Polish displaced persons’ camp. At its peak Wildflecken holds about 20,000 people, many unwilling to return to a Poland now under communist rule. UNRRA worker Kathryn Hulme described the camp in her memoir The Wild Place (1953).
