Hai Hong refugee ship (1978)

On the Refugee crises map as “The Hai Hong”

Nov 1978 — About 2,500 refugees had paid in gold for passage aboard the rusting freighter Hai Hong. When it anchored off Port Klang, Malaysia refused to let them land. They remained offshore for weeks before Canada, West Germany, the United States and other countries accepted them; the crisis became front-page news.
