Piracy at Ko Kra (1979–81)

On the Refugee crises map as “Ko Kra”

1979–81 — In the Gulf of Thailand, pirates attacked refugee boats, robbing, raping, abducting and killing the people aboard. Many of the attackers were Thai fishermen, and women were held captive on the small island of Ko Kra. In 1981 UNHCR found that most boats reaching Thailand had been attacked, many more than once. Remember them.
