Marco Polo Bridge Incident (1937)
On the Chinese Revolution map as “Marco Polo Bridge”
7 Jul 1937 — During a night exercise near the Lugou bridge southwest of Beiping, a soldier went missing and fire was exchanged. The local incident became a war that lasted eight years, though neither government had quite chosen it. Chiang would not retreat this time: “the limits of endurance have been reached.”
