Huaihai campaign (1948–49)
On the Chinese Revolution map as “Huaihai”
Nov 1948–Jan 1949 — In the civil war’s largest battle, 600,000 Communist troops and a million peasant porters with barrows helped destroy 550,000 Nationalists around Xuzhou. Deng Xiaoping’s front committee coordinated the campaign, and whole government divisions defected during the fighting. South of the Huai, no organized force remained.
