Battle of Bendery (1992)
On the Meiji Japan and post-Soviet Russia map as “Bender”
Jun 1992 — The battle for Bender, on the Dniester’s right bank, was the bloodiest clash in Moldova’s war with the breakaway region of Transnistria. Russia’s 14th Army, still based there, tipped the balance. A July ceasefire left Transnistria a frozen statelet under Russian protection.
