Battle of Aizu (1868)
On the Meiji Japan and post-Soviet Russia map as “Aizu-Wakamatsu”
Oct–Nov 1868 — Aizu, the most loyal of the Tokugawa houses, held its castle town against the new government’s armies for a month. Its surrender on 6 November broke the northern alliance. The defeated Aizu samurai were later resettled on poor land at the northern tip of Honshū.
