Feminism and the Tunisian Revolution · TURNING POINT ·

Illinois rejects the ERA (1972–82)

On the Feminism and the Tunisian Revolution map as “Illinois says no”

1972–82 — Illinois votes on the ERA almost every year but never ratifies it, the only northern industrial state to hold out. Majorities vote for the amendment in 1975 and 1980, yet fall short of the state’s three-fifths rule. In June 1982 seven women fast at the Capitol for 37 days.
