Withdrawal of Soviet experts (1960)

On the Mao’s China map as “Lanzhou: the experts leave”

Jul–Aug 1960 — Within a month, Khrushchev recalls all 1,390 Soviet experts and cancels hundreds of contracts. Many experts take their blueprints away. Among the unfinished projects is the gaseous-diffusion plant at Lanzhou, built to enrich uranium. Chinese engineers finish the plant, which produces bomb-grade uranium in January 1964.
