Bengal famine (1943–44)

On the Indian independence map as “The Bengal famine”

1943–44 — Perhaps two to three million Bengalis died of starvation and disease while rice was exported and Churchill’s cabinet refused shipping. The causes remain disputed: denial policy, hoarding, the fall of Burma, and official callousness all enter the argument. The deaths do not. Remember them.
