Malabar rebellion (1921–22)

On the Indian independence map as “Malabar, 1921”

Aug 1921–22 — Khilafat agitation helped ignite a rebellion by Mappila tenants against landlords and the Raj. Thousands died in the rising and the reprisals, as well as in a suffocation transport at Podanur. The communal wounds never fully closed. Remember the dead of every community.
