Kenyatta’s Nyeri speech (1952)

On the Haiti and Kenya independence map as “The Nyeri meeting”

26 Jul 1952 — At Ruring’u, Kenyatta tells a huge crowd that the Kenya African Union is not Mau Mau. The same words carry different meanings to his listeners: officials hear evasion, while militants, many present in the crowd, hear a leader who will not break with them.
