Sykes–Picot Agreement (1916)

On the WWI map as “The Sykes–Picot line”

16 May 1916 — In the same year that Britain makes promises to Hussein, Britain and France secretly draw lines across the post-Ottoman Middle East: “A” for France, “B” for Britain. The Bolsheviks publish the map in 1917. The double promise shapes a century.
