Kilkis and the civilians (1912–13)

1912–13 — Civilians across the Balkan Wars suffer at the hands of every army: villages are burned and people driven out for having the “wrong” faith or language. Kilkis is burned in July 1913. A Carnegie Endowment commission documents the crimes in 1914. Hundreds of thousands become refugees, Muslims above all. Remember them.
