Templo Mayor (1325–1521)

On the Norse and Aztecs map as “Templo Mayor — the founding site”

1325 to 1521 — Mexica tradition places the founding of Tenochtitlan at this spot, where an eagle stood on a cactus. The Templo Mayor rose here in seven building stages. Its twin shrines honored Huitzilopochtli and the rain god Tlaloc, at the centre of the sacred precinct.
