Battle of Guangchang (1934)
On the Chinese Revolution map as “Guangchang”
Apr 1934 — The Fifth Encirclement brings a different kind of campaign: German-advised blockhouse lines and 700,000 men form a tightening ring of concrete and wire. At Guangchang, the soviet’s conventional defense fails, with 5,500 casualties. By October, breakout is the only choice left. The resulting march becomes the Long March.
