Conquest of Toledo (1085)
On the Crusades map as “Toledo”
1085 — Alfonso VI takes Toledo, the old Visigothic capital, in a conquest that becomes a model for the Reconquista. The city also becomes a rare meeting-place for Arabic, Hebrew and Latin learning. This exchange of knowledge is an unintended gift of the crusade.
