Treaty of Venice (1201)
On the Crusades map as “The Venetian contract”
1201 — the crusade’s envoys commission a vast fleet from Venice, only to find they cannot pay for it. The debt places the expedition in the doge’s hands. Its course bends away from Egypt, step by step, toward disaster.

Western and Islamic neighbors retain their own dated sources.
At some ports, source coastlines have offsets of several kilometers at their resolution. The original polygons are preserved, and the review record gives explicit coastal anchor tolerances.
