Tochtepec (c. 1450s onward)

c. 1450s onward — Tochtepec was a provincial capital in the warm, wet Papaloapan lowlands and a base for long-distance merchants known as pochteca. The Codex Mendoza shows its tribute in cacao, rubber, feathers and fine cloth: luxuries the high basin could not produce.
