Andersonville Prison (1864–65)

On the American Civil War map as “Andersonville”

1864–65 — Camp Sumter’s open stockade holds Union prisoners exposed to starvation, exposure and disease. Nearly 13,000 die there, making Andersonville the deadliest ground of the war. It is a place of remembrance for prisoners, rather than a battlefield.
